A well-maintained lawn is every homeowner’s dream. Not only does a healthy lawn improve the appearance of your house, but also gives you and your family a place to enjoy the sun. At ToDoolie, we understand that sustaining your yard isn’t easy, so we have some tips for you to make you stay on top of it.
Depending on the season, your lawn will require different needs.
Much like yourself, you prepare differently depending on the current season. Your lawn is no different. During winter, your lawn won’t require as much work, as it is laying dormant. Grass growth slows due to shorter daytimes and lower temperatures. After the cold winter, your lawn will need the most attention. You’ll want to make sure that you're watering it consistently and using fertilizer to ensure that the grass is getting the optimum amount of nutrients.
Once summer hits, it will be important to keep an eye on the health of the grass. Usually, the summer months bring more outdoor activities, putting a burden on your yard. With more people on your lawn, avoid any chemical solutions for weed control and try to remove them using a gardening tool. As the fall rolls around, look out for any fall lawn diseases such as Necrotic Ring Spot, Fairy Rings and Red Thread. In order to prevent these from killing your luscious lawn, make sure that you aren’t overwatering and remove any excess “thatch” and aerate compact soils where these diseases thrive.
Lawn mowing is another crucial aspect of maintaining a natural and healthy lawn. A mistake homeowner make is cutting their grass too short. By cutting it too short, you weaken the foundation of the grass and make it more susceptible to being destroyed. Lawns that are cut at a higher grow stronger roots, allowing it to reach deeper into the soil for the nutrients it needs to grow properly. Never cut your grass a 1/3rd of an inch for each mow so the roots have enough potential to grow.
By keeping these things in mind, your lawn will become stronger and healthier all year round. It doesn’t take a pro to maintain a healthy yard, but someone who takes pride in their home.
